    HOTELS FACING THE CARRIBEAN

    Approximately 60 of Cancun's nicest hotels are located on the 7 mile beach facing east toward the open Caribbean, running from Punta Cancun at the active north end to Punta Nizuc at the slower paced south end.

    Most of these hotels are 5-Star or grand Tourismo facilities catering to the luxury tourist market. They all share easy access to the ocean, right out in front of the hotel. Walking along the sand checking out the other nearby hotels is a fun way to enjoy the beach.

    If you have seen pictures of Cancun hotels on spectacular white sandy beaches with aqua blue waters gently lapping at the shore, this is the Cancun area most people stay at and enjoy. And why not? It's paradise!

    Staying towards the north end of this section of the Hotel Zone allows you the option of walking to the many restaurants and bars nearby. The further south you go on the island the further removed the hotels are from all of the action. Taxis are available at all hotels and are an easy way to hop around the island!

    When obtaining room quotes for Cancun be sure to ask if all taxes are included in the rate. Sometimes the room rate per night is quoted with taxes and sometimes without taxes...be sure to ask.

    HOTELS FACING MUJERES BAY

    There are approximately 30 hotels in Cancun which face Mujeres Bay on Cancun's north end. This bay is just around the corner (Punta Cancun) from Cancun's main east facing beaches, but these beaches have the added luxury of being protected from the prevailing winds. The result? The ocean waters in front of these hotels is usually calmer and free of wave action, something hard to avoid around the corner on the east facing beaches. If you want to snorkel or enjoy water sports in front of your hotel this is the best place in Cancun to do it!

    The hotels on this bay towards the east end are within walking distance to many of the restaurant, bars and shopping areas that have made Cancun Island famous (including the Convention Center), while the hotels on the west end of this bay are closer to downtown Cancun.

    Another advantage to the hotels on this stretch of beach is that the excursion piers are located here, allowing easy access to the boats that head out to sea for the outer islands, fishing and diving.

    When obtaining room quotes for Cancun be sure to ask if all taxes are included in the rate. Sometimes the room rate per night is quoted with taxes and sometimes without taxes...be sure to ask.
